The Zikr Dance Ensemble will present a multi-media performance entitled “Sacred Spaces” at the brand new PACE Center in Parker, Colorado on Friday and Saturday, June 29 & 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm. The program will feature “Anasazi Dream”, a thirty-five minute work for which Artistic Director David Taylor received the City and County of Denver’s first Individual Artist Fellowship Award for Dance in 1987. This collaborative work, based on the mysteries of the Anasazi Indian culture of America’s southwest, includes a brilliant original score by composers Mark McCoin and Bruce Odland and special effects provided by the Museum of Outdoor Arts’ Design and Build team, a nationally recognized young artist internship program.

In addition, the program will also feature two world premieres by David Taylor: “Cathedral of Light”, an all men’s piece to the music of former Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, and “The Oracle of Delphi”, based on the ancient Greek legend of the prophecies of the Pythia, the priestesses at the famous Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Both of these works will feature aerial dance and special computer-generated lighting effects provided by the Musuem of Outdoor Arts.

Finally, the company will present two of the G.I. Gurdjieff  sacred movements, “Walking Prayer” and “Men Ceremony”, staged for the Zikr Dance Ensemble by internationally recognized Gurdjieff sacred movement teacher Amiyo Devienne.

David Taylor founded the Zikr Dance Ensemble in the summer of 2009. The company offers a spectrum of works that are based on transcendent dance rituals from many different ancient world cultures throughout history along with original and contemporary dance/theatre realizations. Zikr’s roster includes some of the finest ballet-trained dancers from various companies along the Front Range and the company has already presented successful performances to critical acclaim in Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, Aspen, Carbondale, and Grand Junction, Colorado as well as in St. Paul, Minnesota and Long Beach, California.

These performances are made possible, in part, through the generous support of the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, Denver Ballet Theatre, UMB Bank, the PACE Center, and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
